Voice

We teach young filmmakers to develop their voices and give them a platform to tell their stories to the world.

Kiara Battle is a first year GFS Fellow from the Bronx. She screened her first short film, Our Separate Rooms on October 7, 2021 and was was one of three higher education scholarship recipients.

"Viewing my sister’s and my films on the big screen at the Directors Guild of America theater at the age of seventeen is something I couldn’t have imagined as close as last year. I am more than thankful to the Ghetto Film School program and staff as they are helping me reinvent my future and have given me so many cool experiences already." Opportunity

We create meaningful professional experiences and job placements for our students, alumni and the Roster community.

As a GFS Alumna and Roster member, Alyse worked as a Documentary Series/Film Development Intern for CNN from June through September 2021.

"It was an insightful look into the inner workings of a company as well as a production. I learned how to conduct myself in both a corporate and creative environment. I have received hands-on training within this department. Beyond my daily tasks this internship also includes a mock development project which gives great insight to what companies are looking for in a pitch. Coverage exercises and other narrative lessons I received at GFS have been very helpful in establishing myself as an experienced intern. "

Perspective

We partner with leaders in arts, education and business to push the culture forward on issues of inclusion and creativity.

GFS SCOPE partnered with Neutrogena Studios in the summer of 2021 to introduce Neutrogena Studios: First Frame ™, an eight month program where young filmmakers are paired with a dedicated mentor to guide them through their filmmaking journey. Sarah Jean Williams and Kyra Peters each won a $25,000 production award to develop their short films.

"I'm grateful to collaborate with GFS on a project that is so deeply personal to me. With this provided platform, resources and creative freedom - I'm able to share a story from my hometown, The Bronx. The Bronx and its inhabitants are often misrepresented in modern media and through SCOPE I was able to represent my hometown and neighbors in a different light."

— Kyra Peters, GFS Alumna '16

"'Imagine a world where skin is not a barrier'" Authenticity 365 was the prompt given when making this project with Neutrogena. Respectful and caring representation in media is vital, and it's important to bring marginalized and silenced voices to the forefront to generate pieces of work that are authentic. And that's what working with SCOPE allowed me to do with En Evant, a piece that deals with race, and art."

— Sarah Jean Williams, GFS '19
