CELEBRATING 20 YEARS

Honoring Ghetto Film School's 20th anniversary by presenting stories and art that reflect our evolution as an organization

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE AN ARTIST NOW?

"We're always in conversations with the past. When you make art,

you're always entering a conversation that's been had before."

Dr. Sheril Antonio

Senior Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives, NYU &

Vice Chair of the Ghetto Film School Board

"Art In Times of Crisis" by Dr. Sheril Antonio

Dr. Sheril Antonio, Senior Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives at NYU, & Vice Chair of the GFS Board, taught a timely class at GFS in June 2020. The class, titled "Art In Times of Crisis" is comprehensive and illuminating in addressing the role of the artist in times like these. In a discussion that spans decades of film, music, and art that was created as a response to the times, Dr. Antonio provides a framework for young artists to process moments of crisis, and use it to create art that can exist in a wider context.
